FitTick – Programm

Earplug & Hearing Protection

HPD Fit Testing

Fit testing of ear plugs is mandatory on many sites and across industries. Australian Standards AS/NZ 1269.3:2005 Occupational Noise Management, Part 3 Hearing Protector Program, recognise this.

The FitTick program not only builds and supports compliance, HDP testing or Hearing Protection Device Testing ensures that ear plugs fit and do provide an adequate seal in the wearer’s ear.

Hearing Protection - Ear Plug Fit Testing

FitTick provides on-site and in-house ear plug and hearing protection device (HPD) fit testing using either our purpose-built mobile testing booth, dedicated testing spaces in our local offices, or pop-up testing facilities which can be set up Australia-wide within 24 hours.

Why is HPD Fit Testing necessary?

Apart from HPD fit testing being a legal requirement in many industries, continuous fit testing also provides information about the individual level of protection the provided HPD (earplugs or muffs) achieves for each worker.
Only the proper fit of the PPE provided ensures an adequate seal from an excessively noisy work environment.

Inappropriate fit results in a lower level of protection and a worker potentially being exposed to a harmful level of noise.

A Hearing Protection fit test is a simple audit of a worker’s equipment in conjunction with an assessment of the employee’s hearing ability.

Frequently asked Questions

Some of the most frequently asked questions about hearing protection device fit testing.

Is HPD Fit Testing a legal requirement?

Fit testing of Hearing Protection Devices, such as earplugs or ear muffs, is mandatory on a number of sites and across industries. The Australian Standards AS/NZ 1269.3:2005 Occupational Noise Management, Part 3 Hearing Protector Program, recognise this.

What is an Ear Plug Fit Test?

During a Fit Test, our FitTick technician demonstrates the correct use and then tests if the ear plugs fit and provide an adequate seal in the wearer's ear.

Is an HPD test a hearing test?

No. We recommend combining your HPD Fit Test with an Audiometric test. For more details, please visit our page about Audiometric Testing.

Can you fail a HPD test?

Yes and no. An earplug of earmuffs fit test measures the effectiveness of the PPE provided. Effectiveness depends on correct use of the PPE and factors such as hearing capability.
